Currency
The basic unit of currency in Hungary is the forint (Ft). Coins come in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Ft. Banknotes come in denominations of 200, 500, 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, and 20,000 Ft.

September 2007 European Commission Official Exchange Rate is 1 EUR = 255.44 HUF, so the rule of thumb is 4 euros are 1000 Forints approximately.

It is usually not possible to pay with euros officially (in a taxi, the meter always shows Forints, and taxis only take cash), but some places are glad to receive Euros, with below average exchange rates.
There are may currency exchange offices and banks where you can change money. There is one the airport arrivals halls. So it is useful to exchange money at the airport. Also many ATMs are available for cash withdrawal.

Most credit cards (Visa and Mastercard are the most popular) are accepted at most places, but do not expect very small shops or restaurants to accept cards, so ask before.

For comparison:
The taxi from the airport costs between 3000 and 4000 Fts.
One liter of patrol costs around 280 Ft.
A 1 week pass for Budapest public trasport is 3600 Fts.

The is situated on the Buda side, in the green belt of the Hungarian capital city.
