DGSI

Platform Computing GmbH is the coordinator for the German government funded D-Grid research project DGSI:
  
In the course of this project, Platform Computing aims to implement a Meta-Scheduling service based on Platform LSF components. Scheduler-framework and –plugins are to be developed to production quality level in collaboration with Platform Computing developers around the globe. The Meta-Scheduler shall interoperate with other technologies provided by DGSI partners. According interoperability protocols need to be defined and implemented. Beyond the core technological tasks of the project we target advanced combined Grid & Cloud usage, breaking ground into productive research infrastructure and industry deployments.

Germany

Challenge:
Implementing an industry solution for standards based interoperability between Grid Meta-Schedulers.

The position:
· Reports to Platform Computing DGSI Project Manager. Start date: immediate
· The full time position is bound to the DGSI project (2009-2012). Compensation approx. E15 (West)
· Due to the research funding restrictions of the German Federal Government, the person needs to be German citizen or resident with working permit valid for Germany. Ability to travel abroad without restrictions is requested.
· As the collaboration in the DGSI research project includes the opportunity to publish, the position is suitable for PHD-students or Post-Docs.

Workplace:

Germany. Optionally Platform Office or Home Office. Frequent meetings in Ratingen or other Platform locations and participation in DGSI project meetings.

Skill Requirements:
· Strong programming skills: C/C++, Java, QA experience, design for testability, more languages and methods of advantage.
· Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in distributed systems of different concepts, standards and technologies.
· Master (Diplom) or PHD in computer science, physics or comparable degree.
· Fluent in English and German. Technical documents will be in English while reports and discussions require German.

Personal requirements:
· Self organizing team player with good communication skills. Professional in taking on challenges and work hard to win.
· Cooperative and constructive personal attitude: ability to ask for input and explanations, ability to admit errors and ask for help. Willingness to provide help, explanations, and support.
